3310M Integrated Chip

The First Complete, Single-Chip EoC Solution: CG3310M

CG3310M Integrated Chip

CG3310M enables ultra low-cost EoC deployments

CopperGate's CG3310M chip is the first complete Ethernet over Coax (EoC) solution on a single chip. Based upon an integrated mixed signal design, the CG3310M reduces the footprint on the PCB and minimizes the number of external components needed to deliver affordable broadband access over existing coax infrastructure. The new chip makes integration into end user devices such as set top boxes and networked consumer appliances much cheaper, opening up a new opportunity for OEMs to deliver even lower priced, integrated solutions for multiple service offerings over EoC.

As an extension of the access network from the WAN termination to each of the apartments in a multi-dwelling unit (MDU), the 33310M enables cable television service providers to deliver advanced services such as, triple play, VOD, IPTV, Broadband Access and VoIP to residents of MDUs in a speedy and cost-effective way over existing coaxial cable. The 3310M solution coexists with standard cable TV broadcast services that are already delivered over the same wires.

The CG3310M uses a new flexible band selection process for improved performance, increased robustness and better coexistence with legacy services such as CATV and DOCSIS. Based on Sigma's Fast EoC™ technology, the new chip can be part of a very high performance solution that delivers solid 160 Mbit/s of total system throughput to 126 simultaneous users. The new chip is also very energy efficient, requiring only 1.25 watts of power.

Based upon the HomePNA/ITU G.9954 standard, the CopperGate CG3310M is designed to meet the highly price sensitive markets of China, India, Brazil and in other emerging markets. The CG3310M will help operators deliver high performance HomePNA EoC based broadband services at a much lower deployed cost per subscriber than with any other competing technology.

The legacy chipset, called the CG3210M, was the first chipset to enable Fast EoC technology and is shipping today with Fast EoC functionality. The new CG3310M also supports Fast EoC and is fully compatible with the CG3210M and with previous HomePNA based EoC solutions.

The CG3310M is supported by Evaluation Boards CG3310MLEC and comprehensive Development Kits.
